Forty Four Poems
By Ajay Singh Yadav

Power

I know you have the power
To call forth the four winds of heaven.
At your call the thunder hearkens loud,
And the forked lightning dances
Across mountains of cloud.

But madam, these powers were not given
To change the cycle of the seasons
And confound summer with winter weather.
Or any of the wayward reason
That occur to those with power.

They were given:
That all men and women
Might see in a willful creature of the earth
The forbearance of heaven
