Forty Four Poems
By Ajay Singh Yadav

Listen to the Silence

No one listen to the wind soughing
In the forest and it is hard to hear
The soft tweet of the sand lark as she grubs
For insects in the dry lantana leaves.
The cry of haar-haar-harr comes to me
On eddies of the wind. A tractor chugs
Over the slope, but mostly it’s cars
And motorcycles with girls riding pilklion
With faces all muffled up. Only if you listen
Carefully can you hear the distant honking
Of the bar-headed geese, somewhere far off
And the sudden kapil dev-kapil dev of the
Grey partridge, walking upright across the creek.
